In a couple of days, the preshow to New York Fashion week kicks off.  Of course, Hurricane Irene has postponed several shows including Theyksens’ Theory and Marc Jacobs by several days.  There will also be several names missing from this year’s NY Fashion Week, as well as several important additions.  Helmut Lang will be presenting their first show in 5 years, and Zac Posen will be unveiling his first showing in 2 years on September 11th.  However, Isaac Mizrahi won’t be putting on a show at all – he will send out a look book because according to his blog, it sounds more modern.  Although he did say that he’ll be putting on a lollapalooza show next year in 3D in cinemas.

Speaking of 3D, Norma Kamali and Nicola Formichetti for Mugler have both announced that they will be putting on 3D video shows rather than catwalk shows this year.  Could be interesting to see how lower resolution 3D video compares to actually there clothes – especially with fashion being such a visual medium.  Kamali said “Video is more descriptive, more entertaining and, really, the most detailed way to present a collection”.  We would agree if it was HD video on huge HD screens in a gallery setting, but not 3D.  Formichetti created a 3D avatar of his muse Zombie Boy and will feature it in a show in his pop-up store in Tribeca at 57 Walker Street.

However, Gwen Steffani won’t be attending her L.A.M.B. fashion show as she is too busy recording her album with her band No Doubt, the first in 10 years.  Somewhat replacing her will be Avril Lavigne’s Abbey Dawn show.  Whilst some fashion bloggers are deriding this, I personally am looking forward to seeing something punkier, especially since the grunge trend should be making a comeback for Fall 2011.

All in all, New York Fashion Week looks to be a great week!  I can’t wait to blog all about it!

Ok, so how is this for a first post on Allowings?  The British Fashion Awards 2011 nominees have been announced.  And I am going to make my predictions.

So, for Designer Of The Year, I am going to go a little controversial.  The nominees are Christopher Kane, Erdem and Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.  And I am not backing Sarah Burton.  I’m backing Erdem to win.  And not just win, by win by a landslide.

For Model Of The Year, I think it’s going to be really, really close.  The nominees are Georgia Jagger, Kristen McMenamy and Stella Tennant.  And I think it’s going to be a close fought battle between Kristen McMenamy and Stella Tennant, with Kristen McMenamy just edging it.

For Designer Brand Of The Year I think it’s going to be another landslide battle. The nominees this year are Burberry, Stella McCartney, Tom Ford and Victoria Beckham.  And I think Burberry are going to win it by a mile.

For the Isabella Blow Award For Fashion Creator prize, the nominees are Guido Palau, Katie Grand and Sam Gainsbury.  I think Katie Grand is going to win this by quite some margin.

For Menswear Designer, I think it’s going to be a really close race between Kim Jones, Margaret Howell and Oliver Spencer, but I really think that Margaret Howell is going to edge it over some excellent competition.

For Accessory Designer, I think it’s going to be Charlotte Olympia who will beat Emma Hill for Mulberry and Katie Hillier to the prize, and by a landslide too.

For Emergent Talent – Ready To Wear, the nominees are J.W. Anderson, Mary Katrantzou and Peter Pilott.  I think it’s going to be really close between Mary Katrantzou and Peter Pilott, but I think Mary Katrantzou will just edge it.

For Emergent Talent – Accessories, the nominees are Jordan Askill, Nasir Mazhar and Tabitha Simmons.  And I think Tabitha Simmons is absolutely going to run away with this one.

Lastly, for Emergent Talent – Menswear, the nominees are Christopher Raeburn, James Long and J.W. Anderson, and I think that James Long is absolutely going to walk away with this one.

So, why do I think these people are going to win?  Why do I think some people are going to walk away with some awards and some are going to be closely fought contests?  Well, I have my own methods of figuring these things out.  Let’s just see what happens huh?
